A retired Alaska Wildlife Trooper, during his time protecting Alaska’s wildlife in Southeast Alaska he became fascinated by the “ABC Islands” Alaska Brown Bear (Admiralty, Baranof & Chichagof Island) which is it’s own unique species.

Always being an avid sportsman (hunter and fisher), never harvested anything that he didn’t eat. He has dispatched many brown bear for public safety concerns in the Village of Hoonah and other villages in Southeast Alaska. Trust him when he says “The Southeast Alaska Brown Bear of The A B C Islands deserves respect from all.”

ABOUT THE ABC ISLAND BROWN BEAR

Highly Regulated & Protected through Alaska Fish & Game

It is one of the toughest and dangerous hunts in the world in all aspects. Non-resident hunters Must hire a professional big game guide. The limit is one brown bear every 4 years, as only a small quota of bears can be harvested per season, and Brown bears cannot be taken by a motorized vehicle.

Hoonah (meaning Protected of the North Wind) is located on the northeast corner of Chichagof Island. Chichagof Island is home per capita to the most brown bears per square mile in the world. Only Brown Bears exist on the A B C Islands along with other species of wildlife.

You will have a rare golden opportunity to view them in their natural domain; feeding on spawning salmon, searching for food such as salmon berries and huckleberries, or roaming in their home of the USFS Tongass National Forest and private lands.

The Island’s setting is filled with salmon tributaries from small rivers, streams and creeks that bare salmon that provide abundant food for the bear. On your tour, you will be taken to areas that the bear frequent such as the different tributaries from the remote road system from the Village of Huna.
